L'Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival 2009 - Sweet Caroline party
By: Kyra Pybus

Sweet Caroline Hair & Make-up teamed up with Babicka Vodka to celebrate the opening of their installation Dark Matters in the L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival Culture Program.

Leading into the week of runway shows and events, the bash was attended by media people as well as music and fashion industry identities. Attendees included the members of The Rush Cutters, who have just been signed in Los Angeles by Mercury Records, Bettina Liano, Yeojin Bae, Alex and Georgie Cleary from Alpha 60, Ingrid Verner who is 1/2 of the design duo behind the label TV, and Box magazine publisher James Dutton. Creative collaborators on the Dark Matters work included photographer Peter Rosetzky, Tide Media, Working Girls, Cameron’s Models and Pybus PR.

Jamie McFarlane, Creative Director of Sweet Caroline, alternated on the turntables with Briony Wright, Editor of VICE. Invitees were indulged with as many Babicka cocktails as they could handle as the Lusso bar served them shaken, stirred and twisted throughout the night. Head barman James wrote a cocktail menu that featured mysterious properties of the wormwood distilled premium vodka. The deceptively gentle sounding pear and star-anise martini was not for the frail ! The wormwood seemed to have a pleasure-inducing, inhibition-freeing effect on those who indulged. But for all the love in the room, Fashion TV footage of the evening revealed that no one received as much affection as the ice sculpture - and no one got as smashed.
